I grew up in the close-knit community of Blackstone, Virginia, a small town located in rural Nottoway County.

I attended Kenston Forest School from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. After graduating in 2005, I attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, commonly known as Virginia Tech, where I majored in Interdisciplinary Studies on with concentrations in PK-6 Mathematics and Social Studies. I received my Bachelor of Arts in 2008. Immediately following my undergraduate graduation, I began graduate school at The College of William and Mary, where I am currently enrolled in coursework working towards a M.A.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction.

Throughout the year, I like to experiment in the kitchen to try my hand at cooking. I like to travel, and though I have had the opportunity to visit Europe, I would love the opportunity to explore other places. During the summer months, I can be found outside, usually at the pool where I am either swimming or teaching swimming lessons. I always hope for snow in the winter so I can build a snowman or go sledding.
